Organizing Model

A key element of our model is our focus on developing intensive alliances with institutional partners. Rather than relying on a coalitional model, we build strong and trusting relationships based on a commitment to working together in the long term. For example, rather than simply joining with labor unions as institutional allies on an issue-based campaign, we work with our union partners’ rank-and-file membership on issues that concern them as members of immigrant communities.

We promote full participation by marginalized communities through:

Organizing union members and community residents into committees in immigrant neighborhoods.

Leadership development of new immigrant leaders so they can be more effective and active in their communities and speak on their own behalf.  We develop leadership through formal workshops and training as well as through practice in campaign work.

Campaigns that bring about meaningful change in members’ lives and in their communities.

Civic participation – beyond just voter registration and mobilization: enabling immigrants to participate fully in civic life.
